First of all: Thank you all of you lovely people who sent me birthday wishes! Much appreciated!

You know how sometimes life just gets the better of you?
Yeah?
That just happened to me for much too long.

So...
I will slowly be uploading some new (and less new) works, and even though people still found me without me saying so: I AM OPEN FOR COMMISSIONS

What do you need to do to commission me?
Not too much.
Send me an email: suzannevanpelt@gmail.com (seriously, use email.. I check that throughout the day, even when life is hectic, where notes often go unread)
Please include any and all information, description and if you have them, reference images.
Tell me what you have in mind. Portrait? Full body? Something in between? Detailed or low detail background? Speed paint? Hyper realism?
That is what I need from you before I can answer the important question of "How much?"

And there you go... Once you did all that, we are ready to start working together to create your unique piece of art from me!

I hope all of you are doing well! How have you been? Let me know ^_^

In the meantime: Stay awesome!
Much love.

It has happened a few times now, that people ask me
"Why does that commission look so much different/better/more detailed than that other one?"

The answer is quite simply: because they paid more.
There is a big difference between a speed paint, hyper realism and everything in between. That is why some commissions are super detailed and refined, while others are not.
I just want everyone to be able to afford a commission. That is why I offer different tiers and prices.
And then there are private commissions, and business commissions....

So I didn't mess up or got lazy for some clients while working my butt off for others, it is simply a matter of "they asked for another level of detail".

I hope that clears things up a little.

Also, since I didn't post anything in a journal yet: HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!! :D

First I got tagged, and now we have the  #DeviantArtistQuestionnaire... By the end of this you will know more about me than my mother does!
Ok, maybe not, but you will know a lot more :D

So here goes:

How long have you been on DeviantArt?
It will have been 10 years in October.

What does your username mean?
It's "Anathema" with "tixs" at the end. I used to be a part of a design group, EJ-Designs, where my handle was Anathema. Google Anathema, if you want to know what it means. (The definition, not the band :P) I added the "tixs" at the end, because the other one was already taken. I have thought about changing it, because no one can pronounce it, but too many people knew me by this name, so I decided to keep it. FOR NOSTALGIA! :D

Describe yourself in three words.
Quirky, Dreamer, Nerd.

Are you left or right handed?
I write and paint right-handed, but am ambidextrous. I prefer the right hand, mostly because it makes daily life easier sometimes.

What was your first deviation?
Do I have to?.... Ok.
Here goes:
Violated - Part 2 by Anathematixs
Poser, Photoshop and mouse. YEAH!

What is your favourite type of art to create?
I mostly paint people. Whether realism, fantasy or sci-fi.

If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
I would love to be good at environments!

What was your first favourite?
Chris- 3D portrait by AddyRedragon

What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?
Anything that speaks to me, really. I went through my favorites and it varies from pencils, to environments, to photography to... anything and everything.

Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?
I can't name just one, cause there are too many.

If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?
I would love to meet all my DA friends ^^

How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?
Anyone and everyone who has added me to their watchlist, left a comment or just said hi. All of you impact my life every day and I thank you for it!

What are your preferred tools to create art?
Digital: Photoshop CS6 and my trusty Wacom Intuous 4
Traditional: Mechanical HB and 2B

What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?
Anywhere I get inspired, but mostly being comfortable behind my desk with some nice music playing to set the mood.

What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?
I have a lot of good memories on DeviantArt and am still making more. It's hard to pick just one. Between the friends I've made, career influencing art I've found, inspirational comments, a DD and meeting so many people, I cannot pick just one.

So there you have it! :D
Link yours in the comments, so I can get to know you better, too!

The lovely astarayel tagged me to do this "13 things about me" tag, with 13 of her questions at the end. And I am supposed to add my own questions at the end and tag people...

Oh, yes I did! I really just made a Frozen reference. Why? Because, kittens!

In other news: Since it really has been forever since I updated my journal: Have an update!
Not that I really have much interesting to say, it had just been a really long time since I posted anything to my journal. So, I am opening the comment section for comments and suggestions!
So, bring on your questions, thoughts, ponderings and wits and have some fun together! I promise I will try my best to answer everything :D

In serious updates: Ehhhh, I am still painting, just finished a series for the first time (of really good looking men... <3 lol) and am going to have some cool updates soon!

Aaaaaand there is currently a Kickstarter running for a project I illustrated; A card deck based around "The Wizard of Oz"!! Wanna have a look?
Go right here to this pretty link and let me know what you think. Heck, maybe even back the project? I would be very happy if you did.
Clicky here: www.kickstarter.com/projects/l…

Also, because I think this is worth a mention: Can we stop with the witch-hunting already? Yes, people do bad things and yes, some of them get away with it... But are they really hurting anyone aside from their own pride? If you think someone is stealing or plagiarizing, contact them via private message with a friendly note. Give them a chance to explain themselves. There really is no need to rally the masses and bully someone into oblivion over something so trivial.
My friend (with the most awesome first name ever) Suzanne Helmigh wrote a very brave, nice and clear journal on the subject, which you can read here: Witchhunts among artists.I was very reluctant on writing this journal, as I often just want to inspire and write uplifting things. This topic is a little less so.

:bulletblue: Witches!
The word 'Witchhunt' comes from a time were some women got accused for being witches because of their beauty or their way to modern way of living (being a single mother or non-christian in times where that was absolutely outrageous). Those women would get ridiculous tests to proof their humanity from which they ultimately would die (burning on the fire stake or getting drowned in a river.) The fact that they did not survive it would proof that they are human and not a witch. We all know that there are no immortal people.. so no woman had ever survived it.
:bulletblue:  Artists!
Now when we talk about Artist Witchhunts it's pretty similar, an artist would get accused of using unorthodox methods or plagiarism. No one likes plagiarism and

And that is all I will say on the matter.

Now, go forth, share love and be awesome unicorns!

Here is the image that goes with it: - Portrait Speedpaint+Tutorial - by Anathematixs

I have a couple of news items for everyone!

First of all, I will be writing and posting some exclusive tutorials and walkthroughs for lbconahan.com (click the www.lbconahan.com/index-8.html )
The first one is now up!
Also, be sure to check out the rest of the website! L.B. Conahan just published his first book "Dragons Shall Weep", which I illustrated, so have a look on Amazon for it, if you're curious about it or would like to read it.
I can absolutely recommend it!

-----------

Second, I will start offering private tutoring soon!
Send me an email by clicking "Mail me" at the top of this journal, stating "Private tutoring inquiry" and please tell me something about the subject, or painting you would like to work on.
I will also offer full semesters, where we go over several subjects extensively.

Price indications:
1 hour tutoring: $60,-
2 hour tutoring: $100,-

email me for package- and semester pricing.

Tutoring will happen via Skype in a private conversation, so completely 1 on 1 where you have my undivided and devoted attention, in stead of a Livestream channel.
It does not matter which country or timezone you are from, there is always a way for me to schedule you in.

I offer tutoring in English, Dutch and Norwegian, so if you would prefer Dutch or Norwegian, please state so in the email. (Though you will most likely be writing in that language, which will be a giveaway... But still.. )

So, if you're interested, or have any questions; click "Mail me" at the top of this journal.

Yes, yes I'm late.. And I'm sorry.
But that doesn't mean I do not wish all of you a very happy new year!!
I hope you all had some wonderful times during the holidays.

Now, I am making a few changes as of this year. Nothing major, and no, these are not "new years resolutions"... (I am not a fan of those) They are more like goals I want to set for myself as far as my artistic endeavors go. What I want to do is push myself, try new things and get out of this stagnant phase I am in. (Portraits, anyone?)
I'm kinda tired of the amount of portraits my gallery contains. It's my comfort zone, it's what I do and it's what I need to get rid of.
Does this mean I will never do another portrait? Of course not. But you will, hopefully, see a lot less of them.
What I need more of are body's, backgrounds, environmental paintings and something other than people all the time.
This will most likely result in me posting a lot less, due to the fact that these paintings will take a significant amount of time to complete, as opposed to a portrait, which I can whip up in 3 hours or less. Though, having said that, I might also do quite some speedpaints (that are not portraits!!!!!) over time.
I want to become a better and more versatile artist, in stead of the portrait artist I am known to be.
Bear in mind, I am not talking down on portrait artists! Portraits are a wonderful trade and they can be immensely challenging at times, but I have come to the point where portraits do not challenge me anymore at all. I've gotten bored with it... I need to do things that I haven't done before, see things differently and grow as an artist.

I do still take portrait commissions, this has not changed, but my personal work will be a lot different... I hope..

Wishing all of you a creative, wonderful 2013!!!
And see you in the comments and deviations!!

Hey guys!

Sorry for my lack of submissions lately, but I've been swamped by commissions!
I am working on a very big project at the moment, which I will give more info about as soon as I get the green light, and on the side of that I have a few smaller commissions running, so there really isn't a lot of time for personal paintings unfortunately.
I do my best to still reply to all your messages though!!

My personal life is a bit hectic and I've hurdled a few obstacles.
Lost a cat, gained a new cat, so have 2 cats again.
And since people have been wondering: No, I am no longer engaged and have not been since last September.
I just didn't feel like posting a whole drama story and all about my personal life here on devArt, but yeah.. there ya go.

Right, I need to get back to work, but I just wanted to update you guys and let you know I am still here, still painting and most things are being sorted ^_^

How are you guys???

Love,
Suuz

After my portrait of Ian Somerhalder I have kinda gotten a groove for painting men.
I never did it enough so now I am on a painting spree of hunks.
Tom Welling, Jensen Ackles, Jesse Spencer, Jeffrey Dean Morgan... (lotsa "J"'s in there... hmmmm o_O )

Ofcourse the term "hunks" is subjective, so I am painting guys that I believe are quite the eye-candy, but you don't have to agree ;)

All ideas and suggestions are welcome ofcourse!

I find that once I have practiced a certain thing enough I get better at "originals", so painting them from scratch.
Maybe I might just get good at painting both sexes :D

On a side-note, I don't think I have ever posted this (because of reasons :P )
But I do have a twitter account that y'all are more then welcome to subscribe to.
I haven't been using it much before, but I have noticed increased activity, so I thought I'd share ;)

Click on the: twitter.com/#!/SuzyVP
And it will take you to my lovely land of tweets.

Hope you all are well my dears!!

Oh yes, I am still alive.

I know it's been while since my last journal update, so I just thought I'd post one to let everyone know I am still here and planning on becoming more active again!
Just need to work through some rough patches...

And I wanted to take this opportunity to wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Will be posting more soon ^_^

Love,

Suuz
